battery draining quickly
Hi, My 2004 XC70 has a battery draw that's been draining battery.. New battery, charging system working at over 14V. If I leave it for several hours with freshly charged battery, it will not start, just click. It starts fine with jump pack or battery swap. When I connect negative terminal, there is a sound like a solenoid engaging under dash, and more of a spark than than the normal draw the acu that is always on makes. any ideas what to check first?
do you have a clamp style amp meter (not that expensive from Harbor Freight etc). first check the battery draw with the ignition off. I'd expect something small like 20mA to 50 mA. After that, you can start pulling out fuses and relays to see which ones drop the draw to an acceptable level. That will tell you which circuit/devices may be in play. Not uncommon for things like a vanity light to get stuck on (say the light in the trunk or glovebox), or you could have a sticky relay that is staying energized. True story - a buddy had a battery drain issue that turned out to be an orange peel that fell into the lighter socket. the peel had enough moisture/acid to create a circuit.
