Question Cruise control issue

Hi,
I am new to this forum and new to Volvo's. I recently purchased a 2003 V70XC Cross Country AWD. When I bought it, it had a transmission problem. I had the tranmission repaired at a local AAMCO dealer. He was just about the only one who would even offer to help. Since I got it back, it still has shifting issues when slowing down below 10 - 12 mph and then accelerating again. The transmission guy says that this is a common issue and nothing can be done about it. My problem now is with my cruise control. When I am in cruise control running at 68 - 72 mph and I start up a steep hill, the car begins to shudder and buck and seems to be having trouble downshifting to climb the hill. Today, it started to shudder and suddenly it shook very hard and the car went into "limp mode". The engine was still running fine but no matter how much I pressed the accelerator it continued to drop in speed. I pulled over to the side of teh road and shut the car off. When I restarted it, it started fine and I drove the rest of the way in without the cruise control and had no problems. Any help you can give a new Volvo Owner would be most appreciated.
