Regarding a 2004 XC70.

I was wondering if anyone knew where, in the process of removing the clockspring from the steering wheel, a brass detent and small spring would have came from. The parts were laying on the drivers floorboard after I had removed the airbag assy and then the clockspring. I did not notice them when I was done removing the old CS the other day, but I got into the car today to look for my flashlight and there they were laying on the carpet under the steering column.

Any help would be appreciated as I have inspected just about everything in the area and cannot find where a detent would be missing from.

The clockspring and airbag do not have any such parts that I have ever seen. The turn signal switch might have such a part. A pic would help.

 

 

 

 

I'm totally unsure here. I've never seen those parts exposed.

 

 

I'm wondering if that is part of the ignition cylinder which is known to fail. At this point, I would put it back together and see what, if anything, is an issue.

Just be careful on those clocksprings. Do not get them out of alignment or you will be buying another.

 

 

They are not that bad. The hardest part is grinding the rivet head off the housing to remove same. Many of these Volvo repairs get overblown to the point that they are inaccurate.

While the job is harder than changing a cabin air filter, it is not the end of the world as we know it.
