Hi all,

I recently got a 2002 volvo xc70 which I've been fixing up, thanks in part to many of you folks. The latest weirdness is this: I replaced the window switch block in the driver's door, which was malfunctioning, and now it works perfectly, except that I can't roll the driver's side window up or down while the car is moving. If I stop, wait for a few seconds, then the window works again. The other windows work fine while the car is moving.

Any guesses?

Update: it seems like this is an issue more with the engine running or not.

Engine not running, the window is reliable.

Engine running, the window works intermittently. When it works, it works until the switch is released. When it doesn't work, I can hear the motor engage but it doesn't move, the same sound you hear when trying to raise the window when it's all the way up.

My best guess, without actually testing anything, is that the motor is starting to fail, and it's getting a different voltage when the engine is running than it gets when the engine is off - enough to make the difference of overcoming the friction and starting to move.

Does anyone have any additional experience or insight into this problem, suggestions of how to diagnose the problem, or reasons why my guess is off the wall?
