Fuel Tank Leak
I just took my 2002 V70XC to a Volvo specialist.
He said I have a leak on the top of my fuel tank.
Needless to say, my car reeks.
Obviously, I need to to replace the tank.
Does anyone know about the most cost-effective way of accomplishing this?
Thank you!

My 1997 850AWD had a fuel tank leak, tanks are plastic and mine had gone at the joint seam, picked up a good used tank from the wrecker ($75) but ALL of the rear drive shaft and suspension needs to be dropped to get the tank out and in..........while you are there, check and replace all fuel and breather lines as needed.......good luck with it. :-(
Having said that, if the leak is at the top of the tank, first check the gasket/O-rings on all fittings, lines in and out etc before trying to drop the tank. ;-)
I am not sure if your model is All Wheel Drive? If it is, replacing the gas tank is a PITA, trust me.

It would be unusual that the tank would fail as it is made of tough plastic. The top of the fuel pump housing could be leaking which is a dramatically less difficult repair. Get a second opinion before shelling out all the money for a tank replacement. Check to see is the tank vent is not blocked, the vapors should be drawn into the vapor recovery system and sucked into the engine and burned.
