Question HU-650 - Center Speaker? + Front 12v Socket?

Hey everyone. On my second P2 and loved finding all this incredible stuff about,... well, about anything Volvo. Really interesting threads and loads of solves and ideas to be had... but new to the FORUMS and thought I'd post a couple of Qs for a topic I can't find via the Forum/Search/XC70 widget:

Do I have a Center Speaker?
  • My current XC70 is a 2006 2.5T and has the HU-650 stock radio/CD rig.
  • The former one - a 2007, now in the hands of Thing 1 in British Columbia - also had the stock HU-650 but sounded a LOT better to my ears.
  • There's zero sound from the dash on the 2006
  • Are these the same speaker kit, 2006 vs 2007?
Reason I ask: I'm not sure the 2006 actually HAS a center dash speaker. Sure the oblong 'grille' is there, but is there anything in that hole?

Can I force fit a Bluetooth dongle into the 2006 HU-650?
  • The capability between these two model years is different for sure.
  • The 2007 had an AUX input in the armrest; no such thing in the 2006.
  • If I pull the Head Unit from the centre stack, will I find a blank input for (eg) the optional CD Changer that I can use to drive a BT signal?
  • Will this be recognized in my radio's input menus?
  • I don't care if it says "CD CHANGER"
Reason I ask: I shunted a Bluetooth signal via the armrest AUX input in the 2007 as part of an epic road trip last year, and it's something I would love in the 2006.

Bonus Question - can I fully replace the front 12v Socket without pulling the shift surround and environment controls?
  • Previous owner liked his smokes
  • No front seat power.
  • That front socket shows no volts; back socket 100% (so it's not the fuse since they're tethered)).
  • The front socket is a mess - need new.
Reason I ask: before anything happens on the Bluetooth side, I need 12v to power the gizmos!

Thanks if anyone has some thoughts to offer.
- JPC
