Default Interior Lamps

I bought my '01 XC70 used a few years ago and am trying to sort out the interior lamps. The two over the dash light when the doors are opened and ignition turned off, but the map lights have never worked. I've checked all the fuses I can find, under the hood and driver's end of the dashboard but none are bad. The lights over the rear seat don't work either.

Are the front map lights supposed to have a power source at all times or is it switched with the ignition? Are the rear lights supposed to come on with the front or are they just reading lights? Powered all the time or with key switch?

Coincidentally, my key fob won't lock the doors anymore and only unlocks the driver's side, the rest of the car doesn't unlock regardless of how many times I click the fob. Can these problems be related? Thanks!

No, not yet. My truck has been giving me some problems that have taken a priority. My plan is to remove the overhead light module and power it with a power supply to trace out the circuits. If someone could tell me how the map lights are powered, that would be a help. Are they available all the time or only when the ignition is turned on?

my 2000 c70 was only while the key was in but they stay on a little bit to let you leave the car after key is removed.

My new old 2000 c70 map likes worked until I put new light bulbs in but broke the plastic light assembly. This texas car the plastic is a wreck. Very brittle.

Looking for a scematic as well so I can test it. My footwell lights quit while the upper light assembly is out.

I'll let you know if I find anything

I think I have a short somewhere because I can hear the door locks try to engage when I use other switches. The door lock motors stop working a lot on these cars.

Not sure if they go bad or it's the switches or connectors.

Trying to get this one back together.

I think you're talking about the courtesy lights that come on when the door is opened and ignition is turned off. Those are working for me along with the floor lights. My 2001 has two switch controlled map lights in addition to the courtesy lamps but they've never worked since I've had the car. I don't know if they are supposed to be available to light without the key switch on or not. That would help me determine where the problem is.

sounds like the lights from the newer cars. The c70 gets stuck with stuff the real it comes out. They update it less. So interior lights are from 1998. Sounds like what we have in the wife's 2007 V70. I try to see if they get power without the key and take a picture of the fixture.

My floor lamps work, along owith all the courtesy lights;however, the map lights, or buttons, do nothing.

Have you looked to see if there is power up there? Take the cover off and see.

They stay on for a little bit so you can get in and out of the car. I assume they work when ever the door is open so maybe they have power all the time.

My 2000 looks like what was in the 850's some of the wagons get the newer style like what's in the s80's I assume you have the newer style. A friend had a bad auto dimming rearview mirror and his key fobs were all part of that system.

Door lock actuators are problematic in these cars. They are a few threads.

good luck...
