'90 240 instrument lamps non-functional
Hi. I have a '90 240DL Sedan w/ 185K miles on it. Great car, bought it new and I'm still driving it after 15 years with original transmission and engine! However, one minor problem I have is most of the instrument bulbs have burned out, so at night its really hard to see the controls. How does one get at these lamps in order to replace them?
Im not sure 100% but I think they are just push in glass bulbs. Some you had to replace the entire socket with. Some were just replaceable bulbs. If they are the replaceable bulbs you can get them at walmart or a Auto Parts store. If you need the bulb and socket Import Auto Parts stores carry them. You wont know for sure till you take it apart.
There are 2 bulbs in the cluster. The best way to get the bulbs is through the Volvo dealer. They run around $15 each unless you know someone that can get them at cost. Then they are around $6. Take out the cluster and the bulbs are at the top. Just twist a half tuurn and they will come out. It is not a big project and should only take you about 15 min.

Pull the headlight **** and the dash dimmer **** off. Then the plastic cover. There is 2 screws there. On the other side remove the 2 square panels next to the cluster. There is 2 screws there remove the screws and the cluster will pull out.
Try Radio Shack for inexpensive bulbs. Simply take one of the bad bulbs to the store and pick up the replacements! BMW has some extremely costly dash bulbs and yet one can obtain them from Radio Shack for peanuts!
