Hello Volvo Enthusiasts:

We need to decide between two used Volvos fairly soon - insurance claim, totalled other car (other awful driver's fault, 18 year old ran a stop sign, my poor son and girlfriend thank goodness walked away....). I'm going to post my two options in both model forums and appreciate your responses. Which should we consider? We used similar forums to help my other son purchase a used Honda Accord which has been a fantastic car, so hope you all can be just as helpful.

My concerns are reliability, cost of operation, and how many miles we can potentially get out of the car (the Accord is at 150k!).

Here are the options through a volvo dealer where a friend works:

2005 S60 2.5T AWD with 125,00 miles asking 8500 automatic

or 2003 XC70 2.5T AWD with 85k asking 9600 automatic

Son prefers 2005 as wagon would cramp his style (2003) but we don't care since we are paying and are looking for safety and reliability.

Our primary car is a 2004 Sienna with 130k. We like our cars to last and maintain them well.

Any tips at all, we would be SO appreciative. We are kind of suffering from PTSD from this experience. Other driver fled the scene, cops found her walking along the road when her 2011 vehicle stopped running.

We are also considering Subarus, but I just like the safety record of the Volvo of course.
