New member. Picked up 05 XC70 for cheap. 235,000mi. Compression test revealed low compression on #3. Planed head, replaced all valves, replaced PCV box while I was there. Now, motor runs great. Quiet and plenty of power. Turbo working properly. HERE IS ISSUE: Drive it for 10 minutes and we get a "stop safely low oil pressure" message. Sooooo. Flushed motor, dropped and cleaned pan and pickup tube. Replaced oil pump and pressure sensor. Filled with Castrol 10-30 Full synthetic and filter. Same result after 10 minutes of driving. Put a manual gauge on which confirms oil pressure drop.I'm at my wits end. Any thoughts on this?

 

Yes - replace the pickup tube with the new style tube - made that mistake once, I put it back together, low pressure (with your symptoms) persisted, replaced tube - problem solved. Make sure the oil pan orings stay/stayed in place.

 

Thanks Hoonk. At the time, I sort of thought I should have used a new pickup unit. Will let you know if that works.
