Exclamation P0740; P1618 V70 XC 2001 187,000miles

Hello Everyone,
Well, now that I got my ETM issues fixed, my tranny takes a dump on me.
I was noticing for some time that when driving around town the tranny would start to have problems shifting.
1rst to 2nd = It would shift fine
2nd to 3rd = shifting with a hard slam when accelerating hard. When accelerating easy the shift would hang for a couple of seconds before shifting to third.
3rd to 4th to 5th = all good.

This only happens when the car has warmed up and been driving in town, especially when I have been sitting idleling for a few minutes.
The message center on the dash said "Transmission Service Required". I ran an obd2 on her and it showed codes P0740 and P1618.

I know these 2001 and 2002 trannys are problematic. Any suggestions besides a complete tranny swap?

I would look up the codes to see if you have any bad/broken parts. I would also change the trans fluid if it looks old or dirty. search the forum to see the drain plug fill method or the trans cooler line drain fill method. Try to shift with the manual geartronic in town, mine does slip in bumper to bumper traffic sometimes and the manual shift helps.

I used the Gibbons method to flush the tranny. The old oil was black and thin like water. I dont know how my tranny even ran at all with the crappy oil.
The oil is now bright red and the car did well. I will run it in town for a couple of hours on sat.
I will update everyone afterwards.

The tranny fluid flush and the B4 servo replacement didnt correct the issue. I did notice an improvement but the tranny still had issues with city driving.

I do reccomend the tranny flush using the Gibbons method and the B4 servo cap replacement before writing off your Volvo. They are great cars. Unfortunately mine had gone 173000 miles before I bought it. By then the tranny was done.

Thanks for all the help. Trading the car in tomorrow if they give me what I want for trade in.
