Radio problems
Hello all,
I am a new member of this site. I recently purchased a 01 V70 XC (against everything bad I read about said year...) and have a question about the radio. It will not pick up AM nor FM signals. I understand the antenna is on the rear drivers window, which has never been replaced. The stereo does work, if the CD or tape option is selected. What are some possible problems?
On the flip side, the car has been serviced all its life (1 Owner) at a Volvo dealer and despite its high miles (166k) (and excellent shape), I feel confident it will last a season or two, and if not, no harm done as it was bought very cheap. I mainly wanted a car for winter as my E-Class Mercedes is only rear-wheel drive, and I wanted a four wheel drive car for Pennsylvania winters to take skiing without having to put chains on the tires.
Also, if anybody is from the Pittsburgh region and could recommend a good independent Volvo shop, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you, Andrew

Have you pulled out the radio and checked the antenna connection there? It may have come loose or maybe the wire connecting the antenna to the stereo has an issue. That's where I would look.
I installed a Sirius radio in mine several years back and had to run the FM modulator in by connecting it to the antenna and then into the stereo. I no longer subscribe to the sattelite and the FM radio was spotty until I removed the modulator and directly connected the antenna again. I wonder if the previous owner had one of those receivers wired in but took it out prior to selling it to you. Could be a simple fix once you get the radio out...but it's not too bad. Just be careful.
