Question Replacing front struts on 2008 XC70 -- Original or Aftermarket?

Hi everyone. I need to replace the front struts (plus mounts and bearings) on my 2008 XC70 (105,000 miles). My independent mechanic, who I trust, recommends going with Volvo's own struts, which he's quoting (from dealer parts source) at an eye-popping $255 each -- not including the mounts and bearings. With all parts and labor, the total comes out to over $1,000. He warned me that aftermarket struts often don't fit precisely, are prone to developing issues, and so on. So I'm wondering is owners here can offer any guidance. I'm loathe to spend what Volvo is asking, and am fine with aftermarket struts if I can have reasonable assurance of success now and down the line.

Thanks so much in advance...A (New Orleans

I would agree to use OEM or better parts. Your mechanic is quoting list price - you can order online and save about 40%. OEMs are Boge Sachs - you can shop mail order to get prices - FCP Euro, EEuroparts, Rock Auto to name a few. For genuine Volvo, Tasca Parts has the best dealer prices. Usually the mounts are fine - the bearing goes for about $25-30. There are three different shock models listed for your car, you will need to look for the markings to get the exact part (ie 20,26,30 ). Assuming you have a standard suspension not the active suspension, the Sachs struts go for about 105 each, the mounts/bearings about 30 per piece so you're looking at about $350 for the hardware for two sides.
