This is so strange. I was driving about 30mph then a loud high pitch noise began to go off.

Pulled over, turned off car kept going. Took keys out and locked/unlocked car restarted.

Noise never stopped during all of this.

Opened engine bay and to my knowledge noise was coming from black box left side of engine bay. Opened it and noise was so so loud. Very hot. Put the cover back on and bumped the inside and noise stopped.

What is this and also after all the noise BS a light hum almost like a computer fan sound was coming from it.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S 2002 XC90 97xxx miles, recently had ABS module repaired

 

I just encountered the same condition with our "new" 2002 S60 2.4T, just bought this past weekend. It doesn't sound good and one would have to believe the module is about to fail. Any insight?

 

Probably the cooling fan mounted under the power steering reservoir in the box.
