stalling when placed in gear after spark plug change
Hello comrades, 2006 xc70, changed spark plugs after mechanic stated code was caused by a misfire/ car was running rough.
code remained after plug change. and car started, ran great .drove about 4 miles, car stalled, starts fine, stalls now if placed in any gear,
reving in park would keep it running. Used NGK plugs.
. ANy thoughts ???

misfire codes are pretty generic - can be caused by weak spark, incorrect fuel trim or on a rare occasion, something internal to the engine. Regarding changing the plugs, brand is less important than plug type and correct gap. More likely you have a fuel trim issue - ie intake air leak or exhaust leak causing the car to run lean or perhaps a fuel pressure issue (sensor/pump etc). Throwing plugs at a misfire was kind of like a hail mary pass - but now you need a better trouble shooting plan.
this exact thing was happening to my xc70. my car was also running rough ie. hunting at idle, stalling at stops. i replaced the MAF, cool air intake, AND the very pricey throttle body
, before finally doing trans fluid drain and fill..there were some sizable chunks of my transmission in the drained fluid, but after refilling, i was able to shift out of park, into drive, and actually drive?!
might be worth doing a transmission drain and fill before any very costly repairs
