Default Xc70 hard start

So I recently purchased a 2010 xc70 t6 and I love it... I got a really good deal because it has 175k on it, but it was from an older couple and was in immaculate condition. That being said I have discovered an issue with it over the last week.... It seems to be hit or miss but any timeframe over 5 minutes of being shut off the car is sometimes hard to start... It is hard to start and sputters and slowly starts. I also have a missfire ln cyl 6 when it does that but once it is running it is usually smooth as silk. Im just looking for direction here on this issue... Seems like it could just be leaking the fuel back into the tank from what ive seen so far.

Any ideas or comments are great thanks!

That's exactly what it is. I've seen it several times on the P3 cars. The fuel pump will need to be replaced.

Would It be viable to install an in line check valve? Ia this a tell tail sign that the pump is about to completely fail? Is their a thread on fuel pump replacement for this car? And lastly what is the best pump to buy without breaking the bank

Thanks!

If you can find a way to install one, go for it. There still might be an issue depending on how close to the engine or pump you install it.

It doesn't mean the pump is about to totally fail.

I'm sure theres something out there somewhere if you search around. You gotta drop the tank to replace the pump.

I'm a dealer tech, we only use Volvo parts. I couldn't give you a recommendation on aftermarket based on any sort of actual experience.

Where is the pump located under the car. It has 200k miles on it and isnt really worth the effort to drop the tank. I am planning on cutting an access to the pump so I dont have to drop the tank

I just want to thank you as well be because this is a lot of good information...

Also does this car have an inline fuel filter or is it just the sock on the pump?

Is there any way to tell if the fuel pump is about to fail?

The pump is basically under the passenger rear seat.

There is no under car fuel filter.

About the best you can do with regard to checking the pump is to monitor the duty cycle with VIDA or an advanced scanner capable of such a parameter reading.

Sounds good.. I did a bit more digging into what this job is going to entail and I really dont want to drop the tank unless I absolutely have to because the exhaust and drive shave and everything has to be removed and it will definitely be the better part of my weekend

Any advice for me on this venture?

Sorry, I've never cut one open to do the pump. Honestly, I'd probably just live with turning the key on a couple times before starting to prime the system.

After months having start up problem finally found sollution. Start motor failure!. Many times in panic when my xc70 2007 doesn´t want to start, dealer can´t find problem and I “solved” with a big accu 100A, but problem remains. In a general garage, told me that is tipically problem with faulty start motor. I bought one used en left put in. With “new” start motor my problem is gone. Maybe can help you.
