Default 98 V90 Heater/Overheating Problems - Need Help

As I mentioned in my Into post, I have a 1998 V90 that had overheated on the first drive home from when we bought it. After letting it sit and cool down the overheating problem went away but now the Heater dosent work. It just blows outside temp air. So i replaced the Thermostat thinking it was initially stuck closed (caused overheating) and then stuck open (cause heater non-op) But that didnt fix it.

I let the car sit at idle for about 20 mins and it never heated up past 12 o'clock on the temp gage. but the heater also didnt work.

Ive noticed no leaks in the coolent system. When I checked the dipstick while the engine was running there was bubbles in the oil, and it started to have light smoke come out of the dipstick hole. So i checked the bottom of the oil cap, No water or Coolent, but the oil is burnt, so I will be getting that changed.

Anyone have any other ideas? I really hope I dont hear the dreaded Head Gasket is blown, Since there dosent appear to be any oil in the coolent or visa versa.

Could the heater core be bad?

Also the engine does have a very faint tick on all cylinders, but im chocking that up to the bad oil.

A faint tick could be the injectors or something normal. I would be concerned about an overheating problem that mysteriously went away, that is odd.

Have you tried the heat at MAX, in the manual setting ? Where do you live that you are trying to get the heater to work when everyone else is trying to get the a/c COOLDER?
