Default Volvo v50 1.6 feels very dead at low rpm (2000

Hi there

Bought a v50 which has a new turbo and new part filter. I think it feels quite dead at low rpm around 2000 where almost nothing happens when press the pedal even at lower speeds and needs about 3500 before there's any action. There's no lights on anything it just feels off. Any owners that can comment. I just got this feeling that something isnt right. Should you also hear the turbo well on it? When does it kick in?

turbos are always spinning and you see positive boost pressures even below 2000 rpm. Historically Volvo marketed low pressure turbos and high pressure turbos - where the smaller LPTs getting to their boost at lower RPMs (ie 1500+) vs HPTs which start kicking in at 2000+.

I'd be looking at the intake air tubes from the turbo to the intercooler to the MAF/throttle body to make sure nothing's come uncoupled or has a tear (or a damaged intercooler). You probably should see if you can get a scan for the boost pressure and look for any CEL codes which may tip you to a component issue like a failed boost pressure sensor... Not sure if you need a VIDA tool like a Volvo dealer or shop would have or if you can tap in a pressure guage on your own.

Thanks for the reply

Ive been testing the car a bit and it can relatively easily hold 2000 rpm going up hill (100kmh) in top gear and it kicks off around 3000 (bit less than i mention above) and more so around 35 and very well 4000. Over 3 you start to feel the acceleration. I dont know how a diesel should handle but from the graphs i see it should have the most torque at 2000 and then it drops while the HP increase.

Im a bit green on this but if im thinking right the best power would be where the Torque/HP intersects? Then the V50 would pull the best about 3000 correct? Ive been under impression that torque means acceleration and thats peaking about 2000 which is why im a bit unsure.
