Default 740 Head Unit - where is the audio coming from?

AKA where is the output to the speakers?

I did a DIN connecter based on this:

http://www.volvospeed.com/obd2/RCA-preouts2.htm

And I didn't get any sound whatsoever.

Is this different on the 740?

Why does the the large wiring clip and the DIN amp connector both run into the factory amp anyhow?

Just do a speaker to RCA adapter from the speaker wires.

Something like this.

Tech my only question about that--since I started doing that right after I posted this--is where should I be splicing wires?

From the back of the head unit? From somewhere off the factory amp or something?

I got a wiring diagram from this:
http://www.brickboard.com/ARCHIVES/2...20063693.shtml

And it seems one or a few of the wires I spliced cut into the electrical system--the car wasn't starting (but cranking and sparking) until I reconnected the wires as they originally were.

(Btw I have a Scosche Converter:

Does that diagram match all the wires in your car?
You could cut them buy the radio.

Did you ever figure out if you have the Factory amp?

If so then it will be different.

Also be careful which wires you cut because if you also cut a wrong one you will have no headlights.

I'm assuming I have an amp--with that switch and all. I mean I haven't really seen anything that says what exactly the amp looks like in the 740 GL.

What I have seen exactly is a box about 1" * 4" * 4" that's silver and has both sets of wires from the radio going to it.

Are you going to bypass the amp or just add Subs?

I guess you could say bypass the amp--I want to switch the output from whatever it is factory to a new amp (to power 4 new speakers--no sub).

HMMM let me see what I can find out.

I know there is a way to bypass but it is usually with an aftermarket radio.

I'd be worried about what signal the amp is sending the radio to let the radio know it is still there...ie security....you know when you unhook the older radios and the "CODE" display turns on? Also....in some factory settings the amp and radio work in tandem (instead of series as conventional aftermarket stuff does) to produce what little watts are availible in the first place. Does the old Volvo set up work the same way? Suplimenting an aftermarket 200 watt deck with an amp is one thing but using that same aftermarket amp on a 50 watt deck? I don't know if thats a good idea...the gain on that amp would have to be maxed out.....

I don't know....i had high hopes for this project at first but after reading and thinking about it....... But hell, as this forum will point out....i've been wrong before!
