Default Do i really??? sub question

Ok i am lookin to get some new subs for my S70 1999 4 door GLT. I went to bestbuy.com and found a nice set of FUBR 12 inchers with an amp and head unit. However, i put the specs in for my car and they said the subs would be a no-go due to size in trunk or whatever. I am kind of skeptical about this because best buy isnt all about cars and im thinking they would just install easy jobs. Is their really a certain trunk type you would need for subs, or can it be done regardless of trunk size?

That is hogwash. You just need to see what amt. of airspace is needed and build a box accordingly. Most subs only need b/t .75 and 2 cubic feet. Never heard of that brand. Maybe they are the new hot ****, but if they are cheap, one thing I learned about stereo stuff is too spend the extra $ to get better stuff. You will spend more loot in the long run blowing speakers and frying amps.

That is a crock I have a box in my car that was built for 2 Zues 12's and for a Caddi.
I stuck it in the trunk of my Mustang with 2 serwin vegas Sound Awesome. The only problem is that my Boss 320 Watt amp overheats in like 5 minutes. The speakers suck to much wattage from the Amp.I need like a 1,000 Watt amp to just push the subs.

I have built so many sytems. I would say the best results I have had are with Kicker subs, or infiniti subs, punch amps and mb quart or boston acoustic highs. And Pioneer or alpine head units. I have been out of that game for a while though so that might not be what's good now. All I know is that every punch sub I have had has blown literally.

The 3 way Boston Acoustic Rally 6x9's are real nice and fairly inexpensive.

another question...what amt of wattage for an amp would you recommend for 2 subs with 1800 max watts each? also, since you guys are like pros with subs and all, can you check out the link i put up earlier and tell me if im getting a good deal or not? thanks

I wouldn't buy them if I were you. They say 1800 watts and the magnet looks pretty huge, but no way a decent speaker with those specs would be that cheap. Never even heard of power acoustic. They are el cheapo's. A Boston acoustic speaker that has a magnet that size and can handle 1800 watts would be about $650 or so. You would be better off buying some kicker subs which would probably hold 400 watts for around the same price. Don't get a cheap noname amp either. I have wasted a ton on lousy stereos when I was 16-18. Don't make my mistake. Even if you can't afford the better stuff, save instead of doing what I did by being impatient and buying the crap cuz I didn't have enough. Hope that helps.

It has paper woofer and chrome terminals. You don't want any speaker with paper woofer, and you want gold terminals for better conductivity. If I were you, I would get one real nice 12" maybe even dual voice coil (DVC) with a sealed box for tighter bass, and a nice amp

Power AcoustiK is Krap. I bought 2 years ago's version of that same sub and blew it out with a 900W peak output amp in 2 weeks. It hit hard up until then, but they're totally whacked when they say how much power it can handle. Power Acoustik amps have that 'if lightning strikes your car' peak rating, so if you're pairing a PA sub with a PA amp, you'd be OK, but it'd still be dirty sound. For clean sound, buy a Type R Alpine sub and a nice little Alpine or JL amp. The Type R shouldn't be much if any more than the PA sub you were looking at, and is well worth the money for the sound it puts out. Plenty of thump.

Upon checking the Alpine site, a 12" Type R is at $220 US MSRP, meaning you'll find them for $175 or less if you do an internet search. Go to www.alpine-usa.com and check the product numbers out.

yea i have realized that PA is crap. I have already looked over the alpine site and here is what i am looking at as far as subs:

1 Type X(12 inch)
or
3 Type Rs(10 inch, 4 ohm x 4 ohm)

Any recommendations as far as amps that would work with those subs and a set of Pro 60 Boston Acoustic Speakers?

Ah, BA. My FAVORITE. All my speakers are BA 2 ways, and they sound better than any 3 ways I've found except the BA and MBQuart models. They sound great paired with the Alpine 240W 4 channel amp. I have an Orion H2 12" powered by 2 Alpine Mono amps, I forget which model- they're rated at 350W RMS each and 700 peak each, but they tested at 398 and 401 W each RMS... Alpine really underrates their stuff, as opposed to other brands that tell you you'll get huge power, but only if lightning strikes your car- Alpine tests at 12V, not at 14, and without capacitors and high output alternators and batteries. I have a HO alternator and an Optima yellow top battery, plus dual .5 farad caps, and the Alpines STILL drop the headlights if I crank it. Powerful stuff.

you cant go wrong with the boston acoustic's, also one recommendation i suggest is the polk momo series speakers, i have a set ot the 6.5" two way and they have the clearest sounding highs and great mid range as well, the only thing with polk is they require alot of room if you run them in a door, clearence is the hardest thing to get these speakers. but i have had no problems yet with mine, i have a mtx 250 for the two cerwin vega 10"'s and i run them just fine, (never overheated) im not into thundering the neighbors with my music but i love having good punch in the trunk if you know what i mean. good luck
