Default Navigation System

Hi,

I have a 2000 S80. I am thinking about getting a navigation system either installed or portable. I woild prefer one that is installed becasue it would look nicer. Does anyone have any ideas? I would like to still be able to use my radio and cd player, though. I would like to do more research, does anyone know where i can find after market nav systems. Thanks.

The last time I was in a Best Buy they had the Alpine in-dash 6.1" nav/dvd/cd unit sale priced at $699 - Model AVIC-D3. That is super cheap considering the brand, and that the gps was included (normally its $400+ on top of a compatible deck). You won't find another name brand head unit with nav at that price point IMO.

Other, more portable options, are of course the TomTom, Garmin Nuvi, Magellan... but most of those mount to the windshield. At that distance it makes it hard to reach and see clearly at times. Not to mention starting off with a smaller screen.

Hi,

I have a OEM Dash & RTI(Radio & Traffic Information) DVD Player plus remote control which is from my S60 & can be used for the S80.

All you need are the DVDs for Europe or UK, Wiring Harness & GPS sensor which you can get from the Volvo agent & its works great.

If you are keen I can send you some pictures & parts & installation procedures. Just send me an email to leschia@gmail.com

Les

I have the volvo Nav system but I actually use my $230 Garmin 200. It's touch screen and easier to use. Being able to bring it inside and hook it up to the internet for updates is convienient too. You can make a portable LOOK custom with a bit of work. I even throw it on my mtn bike as the antenna is internal. And at $230, I'm not too worried about it getting broken or stolen.

Decided to revive this thread as it is close to what I need to ask. So I have a V70N (no OEM navi), and wanted to add a navigation system as well as the ability to listen to MP3s. First obvious choice are those in-dash all-in-one systems (usually chinese, or BluePower), but I just don't want to mess with all that. Anywho, just bought a Mio C728 7" GPS unit with TV and mp3 playback, FM sender. Very nice, but what I really want to do is to somehow install it so it functions like Volvo's original pop-up navi LCD.

Any ideas? I am having the hardest time finding any details on the OEM LCD assembly (dimensions, functions, etc), to see if I could buy the part and fit my new MIO in place of the old LCD...

Thanks! And sorry for the rambling post ))
