Exclamation Please advise!! Hu-803 trouble

I recently starting having problems with my stereo in my 02 S60. When it is hot out or I have played the stereo/CD player loudly (with just a little more than half bass turned up) the rear speakers cut out and do not work. The rest of the speakers work fine. At random times there can be a cracking noise heard from the speakers. I thought that the speakers might be blown but this problem is intermitten. This first started with FM only and played well with CD's, then a couple weeks went by and now the rears cut out/stop working during CD/FM/AM operation. The rear speakers work/sound fine when the car/stereo is cool. There is an obvious thermal issue here.

Is the stereos amp in the head unit or somewhere else in the car?

Has anyone else had probs like this? Any known fixes?

Thank you for what info you can provide...

Matt

i am not very familiar with these car stereos, but if you do have an auxiliary amp, it could be overheating, and shutting down.this might be the reason for it being intermittent. First route would be to find out if you have an auxiliary amp, and go from there, least thats what i would do

You are correct. After snooping around I did find an amp under the passenger seat. I unplugged the smaller of the two harnesses and that was the one that fed the rear speakers...all of them. So with that said I will start there and see about obtaining a used amp and going from there. Thank you for your input
