speakers
installing some speakers in my 04' s60
the rear deck speakers are blown and they are 8 inch can i simply pop in a couple 8 inch free air subs and a set of tweeters? because according to crutchfelid the largest speaker that can actually fit is 6 and 3/4 which really dosent sound right to me

Well you can....but the subs wouldn't be getting the power they need to be moved for proper sound. Just stop by your local Best Buy car audio install place, tell a guy there your situation, what you'd like to do, and then they can point you in the right direction.
well im thinking now. (since i have speakers in both sets of doors) why dont i just send my sub preamp back to the rear deck, install the 8 inch kicker comps and run them off a small (300 watt 2 channel amp) then just leve the set of tweeters running from the headunit and we will be all squared away right?
the other option is getting a set of 8 inch 3 way speakers on ebay and adding some subs to the trunk
i dont want a lot of bass just enough to feel it and complete the system

I'm wondering what the RMS wattage of these 8" subs is you speak of. If its 100W RMS, than that 300W amp you speak of should be sufficient. This would work well, and keep your trunk space available. Keep me posted
Oh, forgot to mention, if the RMS of those 8"s is higher, 300 won't be enough. If retaining that 300W amp makes things easy, step down to subs that run on less RMS. Sub wattage is hard to understand at times, so if you got more questions run em by me. I've set up some retarded loud systems in my day.
well i also dont need to max out the speakers
i have kinda a 75% rule when it comes to subs
the peak output of the amp should be no more then 75% peak output of combined speakers that way nothing gets too stressed and there is no way that you could blow out your speakers
lol the sound system in this volvo is many times more difficult then my old 97' saturn this car isent what you would call plug and play heak the imobilizer kickes in if i change a tail light
