When I was younger I always liked to put big *** subwoofers into all my cars. Unfortunatly huge subs means, huge box with which is necessary to have a huge amount of space. Even with the Volvo, the largest vehicle I have, it takes way too much room to even debate putting subwooferes in there anymore and still have room for cargo. After thinking my ground shaking days of huge subwoofers was over I decided to just pay someone else to figure it out. I needed the install to be heavy hitting and still be stealth. Thanks to Whitestar Motors in NY, I got my wish. Though, I no longer now have a spare tire, whch could lead to problems later. But, for now its working rather well.

Interesting location for the sub. Guess you'll have to upgrade the tires to the run flat variety.

 

Your installation looks great. How does it sound?

I can't see the last two photos well enough to tell what they did. Did they build a box or is the sub cut into the car's sheet metal? And did they position the sub firing toward the ground, or am I seeing the grill of the sub firing up?

Sorry for so many questions. I'm a bass player with a 240 wagon and I just got the subwoofer I requested for Christmas. I'm trying to figure out where to put it so I can still load my bass viol back there.... It's a dumb paradox: I'm a bass player so I want to hear bass, but I'm doomed to driving a wagon because I'm a bass player.

Seeing your install is kind of exciting because if I can do somthing like you did, I won't lose the spare tire. The 245 puts the spare in a side well so there's 6-8 inches of space under the deck where you installed your sub.

Any info you can give will be greatly appreciated.

I love the way it sounds, after venting it, (those 3 holes with the grates) it was perfect. The way it was done (after removing the spare) we created a platform of MDF. The hole was cut for the 15 and a about 6" of a gap towards the back end was left open. We put a (shaped) piece of MDF to create the fin to make a vent inside the "spare spot". There was always about a 4" gap between the spare tire hole and the stock platform that can be seen from the cargo area, we cut (into that) a hole to provide the amp room to show through and to ventilate then bolted down the "new" platform for the sub to sit in. I think I have pics of the building... since my explaining for that sucks... lol
