I had the same problem with a Jeep Liberty. The external door lock cylinder was not connected to the internal mechanism and the battery went dead for non-use.

I tried everything but I ended up breaking the side window to get into the car. The replacement glass was about $65 and two hours time to clean up and replace. It was the least expensive option and it worked.

If you are going to break the glass, wear face and eye protection and use caution as the tempered glass will go everywhere.
