Default Gear oil dimensionring in marine inboad with drive system

Hi, I am new to inboard engines and I have a question about the drive system and its oiling of the gearcase(s)..
I am used to an outboard with only one gearsystem (under water all the time).
my question is: how long can the upper gear operate in a single journey, 2, 3 or more hours continually before the oil will be too hot and damage the gearsystem?
I know, that here in Nuuk, professional "water taxies" put special "coolers" that sends saltwater to the top of the drive (upper gearsystem) to cool it.
the argument is, that they operate in several hours nonstop.
I am not a professional, but that doesn't mean I don't operate for less hours than these professionals.
I sail from city to city along the Greenlandic coast and the average time to sail from city to city is 4 hours.
I know, that the pressure of the gearsystem also depends on how much torq you have and Volvo do have a lot of it, compaired to outboards.
Will I be able to operalte for these 4- 5 hours nonstop or do I have to take a pause for 10 - 15 minutes (the upper gear goes under water, when you the boat comes down from planning) just to cool the upper gearsystem, so the gearsystem is not damaged due to overheated oil?

In. In.
