My v70 ,2000, 174,000 miles failed it's safety inspection due to third brake light failure. Volvo dealer claims it is the wire harness. Estimate of 900 $ to fix. Car will be donated to,charity next summer when we leave the Hawaii. Currently only used as beach car. But must pass the inspection even if the light goes out next month. Is it possible to wire the third light into the tail brake lights in some way. We will ditch car as it isn,t worth the 900 bucks to us, but it has years of life in it. Any ideas?

My post sounded as if I am a casual Volvo owner!. Actually I adore my car, I took my daughter to kindergarten in it , and she learnt to drive in it. We saw Europe in it but we can 't ship three cars. And it's the oldest!

Any Hawaii enthusiasts out there?

The typical failure is at the hinge point. You should be able to splice this with a little effort.
If you can't, an independent wrench can.
