Engine questions
Alright here's a tough one. I have a 1988 740 turbo, but recently I had to replace the engine. My mechanic replaced it with a non-turbo model. The engine runs pretty good except that he couldn't hook up the "check engine" light. It seems that there is a problem hooking up the on board computer. My local Volvo guy doesn't want to deal with it. He says that to fix it is going to cost a bundle. Any suggestions?
That sounds like a nightmare.
BUT
1.Why did you need a new motor?
2.If you install a Non-turbo motor without the computer then it will almost never run right.
3. Why didn't he install the Turbo head on the Non-turbo bock and install the motor as a turbo?
4. Or even the worse you could have installed the Turbo cam in the Non-turbo head and stil run it as a turbo.

It is called a Heat Rise tube.
It is used in the Winter in Cold Climates to Transfer heat into the air box for the engnie to warm up faster.
If you live in a warm climate then there is no need for it.
