Default Oil Seal Replacement Cost?

This is a newbie question. In looking for a good used 200/700/900 series car I see many vehicles with oil leaks. Are there any that don't? How fearful of this should I be? Is it expensive to replace the front oil seals? Rear main seal? Cam seals? Can someone give me an idea of what this would set me back? Can a DIY'r replace them in the driveway, is it hard? Many special tools needed? Sorry for the many questions. Thanks in advance for any feedback/advice you can give me.

The rear main seal...you will have to remove the trans to get it. Most seals will cost ~$7 to buy, and will require a day or weekend for your average DIYer. No special tools That I can remember.....but the Crank Pulley Holder Tool IPD sells does help.

Others can chip in, and give you better estimates.

Oh...check this link for a bunch of aftermarket and OEM sites: https://volvoforums.com/forum/general-volvo-chat-5/volvoforums-resources-thread-7317/

The front seals are pretty easy you should be able to handle them.
The rear main is a little harder. But remember one of the main reasons that the seals leak is something in the vent system is clogged.

If you find some decent ones and want them checked PM me for the phone number for work and you can call and ask how much for an inspection.

Thanks for the info all, and thanks Tech - will do. We're currently sniffing around a white 245 on ebay though. But that changes daily

Simple answer....A lot....
Subframe needs to be dropped so the transmission can be moved enough to gain workable access to the seal...
i would expect around 350-450..., something like that and i would get a new clutch fitted while i was at it (man obv)....
If you have a main seal leak, before spending serious bucks why not try some Forte Oil Seal Rejuvinator...Holding many a rear main seal intact that stuff!!..

I think I found the oil leak. I need instruction on how to remove the seal. I saw cam position sensor and afraid to continue. When I went under the car it was dripping alot. I thought it was from RMS.
