should i listen to this guy??
okay so the car went into the shop because it needs new rear brakes and new tires. i also found out that the engine would need a new timing belt. now when the mechanic was asked about the possibilities of putting intake in, he said he doubted it. my question is why exactly would intake not be an option if the ehgine just needs a timing belt replaced. also the car has been in one accident if that helps
p.s. this is what they said:
turbo return seals are leaking, front sway bar links noisy/bad, vehicle is overdue for timing belt(my mom's fault)

If you can find a company that makes one then there will be no problem with putting one on.
Why did he say not to put one on?
The timing belt should be done soon if it breaks it will cost from $1200.00 to $2000.00 to get it fixed.
The other things he found is kind of the normal wear items on these cars.

i would be getting my intake and air filter from K&N, and they obviously are held in high esteem seeing how this forum has them as a sponsor. Plus i went to their website and found the intake for my model/engine type. the guy has been working on my car for a while just b/c my mom had taken it to the volvo dealer for a while. i personally think they just dont want to deal with extras on the engine. the guy basically said that this specific engine, as in my car only, really shouldnt be messed with based on what he has seen. based on what i have seen, there shuldnt be a problem

okay thanks. i just wanted to make sure because my mom was like pounding it into my head that the mechanic knew what he was doin even tho his reasoning was basically a just because. i almost feel like she payed him to say that because she knows i have a lead foot and that intake adds a little horsepower and makes the car louder.

ITG also makes some good air cleaners. Pegasus auto racing supplies sell them. I have raced and attended many driver's schools over the years.............about 25..............and see the equiptment that works!!! My Hartge is the only one in the U.S. and I use Piper Cross on Weber 45 DCOEs. K&N is ok stuff for run-of-the-mill but performance dictates something better! K&N has a huge advertising budget and that is why they are so popular. If you are looking for oil filters look to Canton Mecca. If you are planning to run hard, you will need a quality oil cooler. S-70, don't go second class when 1st class costs no more...........................
