$2400 to replace a the timing belt
2018 V60. 98,000 miles. I was just quoted $2400 buy the dealer to replace my timing belt. He said it would likely take 2 days. I've looked at the videos on YouTube and it doesn't look like it should take that long or cost that much. I need some feedback. If I decide to DIY it looks like I'm going to have to invest $400 into Volvo's OEM pully locking tool.
Changing the timing belt isn't really a beginners project. I know you want to save money, but unless you have actual experience doing similar work keep in mind that those youtube videos make it look easier than it actually is. Even a tooth off is enough to kill some engines. Then there's the fact that a lot of the bolts may be rusted to what ever it's bolted to. Removing bolts is a skill in and of itself. Sometimes they are even rusted together making it impossible to remove them, forcing you to replace the entire whatever it is you're trying to remove the bolt from.
But then, doing a timing belt/water pump job on a 5sfe engine was how I learned how to wrench. So, good luck.

which engine do you have? is it possible that there is some confusion over replacing a timing belt vs a timing chain? Why are you replacing the belt (assuming you have one?) at 100K miles vs the standard 120K interval (some models are even longer depending on engine code)?
