1995 volvo 850
i have a volvo 850 and ive been having alot of trouble with it. It drives fine but when im coming to a stop or just parked it begans to sputter and sometimes even stalls. It also idles rough and stalls sometimes. rpms rises up and down as if i was pushing the gas. ive changed the fuel pump, tps sensor, coil pack, maf sensor, spark plugs, and spark plug wires and no luck..any ideas of what it could be?
ps. let me just add that when i 1st got the car it was doing the same thing then thats when i changed the maf sensor. it ran perfectly after that then a year later the problem came back..could it be that the maf went bad again or is it something else..any advice would be greatly appreciated

When you say a lot of trouble, what does that mean. We would love to help you but you need to be specific and not whine, but list the problems. You have only listed one here and we don't even know if the car is turbo, how many miles it has, and we all know that you did NOT replace any coil packs because 850's don't have them.
Other than that, your problem is likely related to the idle control valve. It may be as simple as having a vacuum line torn or clamp loose. There is a thread here that a guy just wrote about his car stalling, etc.

I would check your relays.
Here is some info from Dave Barton's site:
"Dave, thanks for posting this information on how relays can interfere with ignition. I had a gradually worsening stalling problem over the past year and a half. The mechanics could not trace it, since the stalling was never associated with a "check engine" light (good mechanics but not Volvo specialists). The symptoms usually were a failure to restart after a short stop, but it eventually worsened to stalling in traffic. I guess the engine heat would cause a bad solder joint to open up and block spark to the engine. I replaced the various relays you mentioned and I have not had any stalling since then. I wonder if a Volvo specialist would have diagnosed the problem earlier? In this case I took your suggestion to the mechanic, and he admitted it would not have occurred to him. Definitely bookmarking your site for future reference!" M.L.
