Hey guys and gals,

My name is Chris and I'm new to the Volvo Forums. My parents owned a Volvo when I was growing up and my sister owns one now. I sadly, do not. I know. I know. But I really want to become a Volvo owner. Especially since I found a 1969 164 Sedan for sale near me.

I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts/warnings for me, before I decide to pull the trigger. Here is a list of the positives and negatives about the vehicle.

POSITIVES
- It only has 81k original miles.
- It had new tires put on about 500 to 1000 miles ago.
- New distributer
- New exhaust
- New shocks
- Engine was converted to run on unleaded gasoline.
- New valve heads

NEGATIVES
- Brakes are a little slow, may need a new master cylinder
- AC Compressor works but leaks freon so it doesn't get cold.
- Blinkers do not work. (however brake lights and headlights do work)

My wife and I are going to check it out on Saturday. It's selling for $2000 obo.

I'm wondering how expensive it might be to have the problems fixed? Any red flags? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As you know, that is a very, very, very old car. Most repairs will be easy, if you can find the parts. If you are NOT a tinkerer, you may want to step back, most mechanics don't like working on cars that are 20+ years old.

Other than that, that car has a million mile motor in it and can last a long time (as you seen). You can browse Volvo Parts, Accessories and Performance Specialist Since 1963 to see what kind of things they still offer for the car.
