Just my opinion but you have a 40 year old car with a bunch of 40 year old parts (and some 39 year old, and 20 year old, and 10 year old parts I'm sure) ypu want to raise it up to where the men who designed it never meant for it to be. I'm not saying you can't do it but I wouldn't.
Experience tells me that that this will be more expensive than you think, less safe than you care about, and won't impress your friends or girls.
Spend the time and money replacing worn trim and the detail and wax the old girl. Spruce up the interiornew mats and fix the seats if the budget allows. It'll be "way cooler".
