Just a clicking sound when key is turned, not the starter, the battery voltage is 12.4 at the post but when key is turned it drops to zero. is it the starer relay ? and where is it located on this model?

 

Are you using a voltmeter on the battery posts to measure the voltage? A good battery should not drop to zero volts when the engine is starting.

 

rite one the posts - took battery out and carbon piled it ( old sun machine) went to 10.4 volts loaded. got started - someone thought it is the neutral switch and to shift it twenty times ? so don't know if that was it or not? figured out the clicking sound in the dash is the headlight relay.. had the dip stick tube get knocked out when the intake was off when replacing the oil breather box - so that dumped a bunch of oil on that side - sprayed that side under neath with a whole can of brake cleaner.not sure if that had any effect on anything or not seeing it all enclosed against the elements anyway?

 

The PNP switch keeps the key from signalling to the starter so if that were in play, you wouldn't get the starter click or the battery voltage drop.

 

could the voltage drop be the starter being 'goofy'? but it don't make any noise - (clicking sound) when key is turned?
