1998 Volvo S70 T5, manual. 198k miles
Hi.
my dad passed away last year and had a red 2door 1998 Volvo S70 T5, manual. 198k miles. My son wants the car but it has some repairs upcoming. I live in Dallas FWorth area. Does anyone know a mechanic that could work on this car? Is a rare model from what I understand only 500 were imported in 1998.
Thanks so very much!

What makes the car rare is that is has a manual transmission and the HP turbo engine. Everything else is pretty common to the Volvo 850s which did come with a manual for the non-turbo engines. Good luck with that car, it will certainly have a good market value if kept in nice condition and I don't think finding a euro car specialist who's worked on Volvos should be that hard, plus most parts for repairs are readily availalble.

They never made a 2 door unless it was a C70. Was 101 V70 T5 manuals in 1998, and 363 S70 T5 manuals in 1998.
S stood for saloon or sedan, C was coupe, and V versatility and was known as an estate or wagon.
I drive one daily. These cars are very easy to take care of, but you may find that some mechanics will tell you that you need to pay a lot to take care of it. You probably will need some sort of a Euro specialist; not many people know what to look for on a Volvo, and particularly an old one, you'll want a guy who's been working on volvos a while. If it is really a 2 door, I've never seen one. They imported 300-ish S70 T5 Manuals and I have actually seen another one.
I have a lengthy thread on mine. My thread might make it appears that the car needed a lot of work, ha ha, but you know, 200,000 miles you wear things out sometimes.

I just had a coolant hose let go under the turbo - that was about the hardest thing to get to on the whole car, but it was really no problem to fix.

Vic Kumar @ European Select in N Richland Hills. Vic took care of my S70 for over 100k miles and kept it running like new. Also worked on my S80 but it didn't need much outside of oil and similar stuff then, still, what little he did was impeccable. Vic's credentials are outstanding, he uses only OEM parts and his turn around time is excellent.
Southwest Auto in Dallas used to get a lot of fan callouts, my experience since I moved to Dallas from NE Tarrant has been less than confidence inspiring and I won't return, their work is fine but customer service is.......so so, IMHO. I have used Park Place since moving to Dallas and the SW Auto fail, work was solid although I have the distinct feeling that I'd be treated better if I was a good looking young woman who I've noticed seem to be the customer of choice there.(But old guys like me aren't anyone's favorite I guess).
Back in the 2007-2010 there were two brothers on Colleyville Blvd I used that were pretty good too, can't recall the name.
Really, I'd suggest Vic, I intend to use him again despite the 45 minute drive because of my poor results over the last 7 years. If you can talk "Cricket" you'll have a friend, don't understand the sport myself.
Oh heck, I answered a 10 month old post!
