2002 Volvo C70 Brake Lights out Completely

I consider myself a pretty mechanically inclined person but this one has me stumped. I think it is the ground connection but I can’t locate it. The brake lights went from working all the time to working once in a while to not working at all. I have checked all the fuses and the light bulbs which are good. The bulbs just aren’t getting any voltage. One night when I was driving around they would come on every other time and since that night have not come on at all. Also if it helps once in a while when I hit the brake pedal a light on the dash comes on real fast and then goes out. Has anyone else had this problem? My next recourse would be to take it into the dealer which I would prefer not to do. Can anyone help me?
