Default 2009 s60 2.5t awd

Mileage - 175, 850
Today while driving the Brake Assistance Service Required message came on - a little while later the Engine System Service Required message appeared as well = the car drove just fine the 25 miles until I got home -- after starting the car again, the brake assistance service message was gone, although the Engine System Service remained - I reset that via the odometer button process so it is now gone - the Code 167 appeared briefly - Research showed me that the Brake Pedal positon sensor can trigger these messages - it's a pretty easy repalce DIY based on youtube research -
Is there anything else that might be triggering these two messages, as research shows they wor in tandem? Thank you-

Your first step would be a scan with a compatible scanner - from there a reasonable diagnostic process might point you toward a solution. That should be cheaper and less frustrating than the guess, replace, and try again method.
