2014 Battery Drain Gremlin
Working GF's car: 2014, xc60, T6 less than 40K miles. Nice car - I have no prior experience with Volvo. . Several times it has shown a LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE message, and been hard or not start. Based on my volt ohm meter. Battery (original battery) is good and alternator/charging is good. Local auto electric alternator shop says battery and alternator are good. I've been disconnecting a battery lead over night, and the battery maintains it's charge and starts just fine when reconnected.
Today, unable to think of a better idea, I placed an ohm meter in the battery circuit (engine/ignition off) to see what I might learn. It takes a little while for the amperage to stabilize as electronics slowly shut down. Eventually, the battery draw settled at about .17 amp. I was in the process of pulling individual fuses (got about half checked) in an effort to identify the circuit drawing the current. During this someone stopped and said they'd seen this problem before - alternator ,even though it charged properly. So off I went to the alternator shop for a test. Battery and alternator tested fine. Alternator guy says, "Volvo's are different, take it to dealer." I'm more the DIY type, than dealer type. I plan to get back to pulling fuses tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm wondering if I have a known problem, or am missing any trouble shooting ideas?
