So I bought the new XC90 and could not be happier with it so far! The only problem is that the dealer I purchased it from put on the USA front license plate braket/retainer on it, and a front plate is not required in the state of Arizona.


To minimze the look and hide the holes in the bumper I'm looking to find the European Volvo OEM front license retainer that fits Euro license plates to "sport up" the front bumper a bit. I believe the Volvo OEM p/n is 31383631 (while the US version is 31383632 which came on the vehicle). US dealers can not import the Euro version and I cannot locate a source anywhere online, even ebay. I want the OEM Volvo one since it is shaped to the front bumber.


Does anybody know where I can locate one of these (or 2 so I hav a spare)???? Thanks!

 

Did you ever find the retainer? I am also looking for one for the same reasons you were. Thanks in advance for any help.

 

Apparently the Euro license plate retainer is not approved in the US for safety or other reasons. I ended up ordering one through a London Volvo dealer by giving them a call and shipping to my home in AZ. Paid more in shipping than the retainer, but it worked. My wife doesn't like that look so I never ended up installing it since the XC90 is her primary vehicle. Let me know if you want to buy it...

 

 

It is in brand new condition... Beverlin installed. It simply came from the dealer in a box with some bubble wrap so no plastic bag or anything. There was no mounting hardware included, but that’s easy to locate. As another option for you, I bought color matching bumper plugs online at bumperplugs.com. Crazy expensive, but a good color match and now the holes just look like sensors. I like the euro frame look better myself, though. I’ll sell the plate for $90 plus shipping. It was pricey to ship from London to Phoenix. Let me know your contact info if interested.
