Default Advice on a 1995 850 for sale

Hi everyone,

We're looking for a project Volvo to join our family. Never owned one before, and we're not afraid of doing work (neither mechanical nor appearance related) on our own.

I found a 1995 850 automatic wagon with leather/sunroof for sale where I live. One owner southern car, 72,000 miles, and they say it was serviced at a local Volvo specialist (I'll ask for the records). The Volvo specialists we have do have good reputations. No mechanical issues that they know of, but it needs a new headliner, the front leather driver's seat is ripped, and it looks like the trim/leather around the passenger airbag has started to curl up. Seeing it in person later today, so I can't yet judge the paint quality etc.

I know the 850s are interference engines, so I'm definitely concerned about the timing belt- not sure if it's ever been replaced. Tires look like they have plenty of tread left, and we'll go with the assumption of regular oil changes and recommended maintenance based on mileage. Anything else I should look for specifically on this model?

The asking price is $2700. Good deal?

Thanks for your help!
