Another reason I love Volvo's... Awsome Braking System...
I purchased a S70 that hasn't been started for probably 2 years. The last valid stickers on the car are 2009. I pushed the car from the street and into my driveway, pushed on the brakes and the car stopped. Moved it several times, pushing on the brakes to stop the car, no problem.
I got a Nissan Maxima home today, stickers on it says 2010 (tag). Pushed it off the street, just before I hit my driveway I hit the brakes, NOTHING!!! THE CAR IS GAINING SPEED, NO LUCK WITH THE BRAKES PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, NOTHING!!! I'm tired as hell from swapping struts for 8 hours and the car is now in the driveway and gaining a little speed, no luck with brakes. I have 2 Volvo's on the passenger side, not going to hit those, don't want to drive through my garage - water heater - and into kitchen. So I start to aim for the brick wall at my garage enterance. Do I really want to hit the house with this thing, don't know how much CHOISE I HAVE. A second later I think, maybe the yard will slow the car down and stop it. Into the grass toward the front door and front bedoom, the car is slowing, it stops just before it enter the Azaleas. Phew!!! Another reason to stick with Volvo's.

Back in '98 the wife and I purchased an S70 and an Infiniti I30 (same as a Maxima). Both cars are still in the family, being driven by our sons. The Infiniti has 140 k, the S70 has 190K.The Infiniti/Maxima is more poorly built (IMHO) in every area but one - the carpet. Everything about the Volvo is in better condition - the paint, engine, leather is all nicer and the I30 was driven by both boys, the Infiniti being driven by me for four more years - and I'm easy on cars.
I think that's the reason I like Volvos.
Like to know what you think about that Nissan when you start working on it - they are basically the "General Motors of Japan", although they seem to have survived w/o taxpayer cash and were smart enough not to build the Volt.
Glad the you, the garage, all the cars, AND the Azaleas survived.
