Auto key programming.
2013 XC60 Volvo with built in alarm system. All keys are lost. I have 3 virgin keys. I've read twice I can program these keys to my car. Otherwise I love in BFE with no locksmith to be found for 45 miles and same with a Volvo dealer. If this can be accomplished with these keys without an actual key programmer, after the 15 seconds you have to program a key, will I have other chances to do this should I exceed the 15 seconds? Thank you

The only way to make a new key work (unlock and start the car) is to use VIDA to tell the car to accept the signal from the new key/remote. You can do that yourself if you have a VIDA subscription and a DICE interface. Otherwise whoever you choose to tell your car about the new keys will have to have a VIDA subscription.
There may be an aftermarket solution such as Vdash - but I've no experience using that aftermarket program.

I just lost my one and only key to my 2005 Volvo S80 today. Long story, involving my wife seeing the trash truck coming, quickly grabbing 2 bags of trash from the trunk of her Volvo that she wanted to throw away, throwing them into our trashcan, watching the trash truck pick up our can and empty into the truck, then her walking back to her car and and the slow panic of realizing that she went to the trashcan with two bags of trash AND HER KEYS in her hands, and now her hands were empty. Hmmm. I guess not so long a story, just highly traumatizing and really funny!
I have a spare key that I bought and had laser cut that works to open the car, but the chip is not programmed. I bought a DICE device a year ago that supposedly will allow me to connect to VIDA. I was mildly afraid to try because I didn't want to brick our existing key. Is there any reason NOT to try that at this point? Could I screw something up and put myself in a worse situation than I currently am in?
What are my other options? Obviously the car is not moving. Is there a reasonable way to have a key made and shipped, or does it have to be programmed with the car? A year ago when I called the local dealer they wanted $700 if I brought the car in. I found no mobile options in town at that time.. Does that mean I'd have to pay to tow the car to the dealer and then pay them $700?
Advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Or you can tow your car to a Volvo dealership or shop is familiar with and uses a VIDA subscription as needed. The key and the car have to be in the same place as the VIDA cpu to be able to tell the CEM to accept the signal from the new key. You can't bypass/fool/get around the immobilzer - don't even try.
A new key and remote could easily cost $700 for the key, remote, and programming both parts. If you previously had the switchblade key - instead of that you can use the separate triangular remote offered with your soon to be programmed key. From what I understand you can use the key download program on multiple keys if done at the same time. I've never tried it, but that has been reported by a couple of dealers techs on the forums. That will save the cost of the download if you wanted a spare key. That download is probably about $25.
Sorry for your troubles.
