Default check engine light

My gas cap was loose and I'm sure it caused my check engine light to come on. Is there an easy way to clear the code and get the light to go out? Does disconecting the battery for a time do it? Thanks for your help, Bill

Most of the time it will not do it.

Stop by the local Auto Zone or Discount Auto Parts and have then clear the code.

I have the same problem. Periodically, it says that the fuel cap is loose and then goes away, leaving only the check engine light on. I went to the mechanic who checked it out and said that the sensor is bad and there may be a very small, harmless leak somewhere in the piping. He told me that it is not worth fixing and certainly safe to drive regardless of the check engine. However, this is not always the case.
