Default Cv axles

Hi all. I have a 2000 volvo s40. I know my left axle was damaged. I replaced driver side axle, while on jack stands i still here clunk sound car on and shifting gears. I then jacked up passenger side and axle has big tear in boot. Can right side cause clunk sound and keep car from driving?

I doubt it, personally. Somebody else might disagree. I just don't see axles clunking. I have a car at home with axles that are extremely bad to the point it's embarrassing (they click in the parking lot). But they don't clunk when shifting.

You can run them to failure. I am not saying you should, I am just saying there is a failure mechanisme where the ***** will fall out of the outboard joint.
