Are there any procedures involved in replacing the battery, or reconnecting it after working on the car? I van a 2006 XC-70 and was told that the ignition has to be in accessory mode when reconnecting the battery otherwise the ECM will lock up???? Really???

Who told you that? Its wrong. Key off. Disconnect positive last. Reconnect positive first.
