I purchased my 05 S60 at a small independent garage, " as is " does anyone recommend a extended warranty & where is a repredible place to buy one! I live in Connecticut. I timing belt was replaced. Thank You

 

you didn't mention how many miles on your car but first thing is to understand is that an extended warranty is an insurance policy that is priced based on the estimated cost to repair your model over the policy's life, plus a mark up. So effectively you are betting that your car will need more repairs than the average for an 05 S60. What you get is the peace of mind that you won't have to pay for a big ticket item for your car.

My view is that given the age of your car, the extended warranty will be expensive relative ot the value of the car and you'd be better off investing in preventative maintenance like 1) making sure the timing belt/idler/tensioner and drive belt are in good shape. If you are not sure when the belt was serviced (your car is 10 years/120K miles for the timing belt), have this service done 2) make sure the PCV is in good working order. A clogged PCV will turn your engine into a bleeder (pressure can push oil out the seals). 3) Transmission flush/drain fill - if you have brown smelly tranny fluild, time to freshen up 4) check other fluids as well (ie brake fluid absorbs water which can lead to rust inside the calipers etc). 5) check all things rubber for age/wear - radiator hoses, vacuum lines, suspension bushings etc. A good time to replace hoses is when you are ready to refresh the coolant.
