Unhappy First Volvo - Overseas delivery - terrible luck!

After visiting the NYC car show this past April my wife and I decided to buy a new Volvo. At the show we learned about the overseas delivery program. It sounded great.

In May we placed our order for our white C70 with black interior. We purchased four "a la carte" options, BLIS, parking assist, home link and heated seats. Then the long wait began. Volvo indicated the car would be produced by September 21.

We scheduled our trip to Sweden for September to pick up (and drop off) our car on the 21st. We had the misfortune of poor weather during our trip but the car looked great! After four months of waiting it was hard to only drive it for a few minutes and give it back, but we were trapped in a short trip due to our work schedules. So on the 21st of September we said goodbye to our Volvo.

Volvo was having some trouble with their new logistics company and the car remained in Sweden for another 18 days before being loaded on the ship headed to the port of Newark and its date with destiny. It arrived on the 21st, cleared customs on the 25th and was destroyed by hurricane Sandy the following week as it sat in the FAPS processing center with many other cars awaiting anxious owners.

Now it is a couple of weeks later and Volvo has notified me the car is a total loss in the storm, but not what to expect next.

Does anyone else on this forum have a similar experience to share? What was your experience dealing with the Volvo customer service people? So far it just feels like more waiting.

Two more days, still waiting. It seems Volvo is waiting for their insurance company to sort things out. I would sure like to see them take the ball, satisfy their customers, and sort out the insurance issues later.

We got a call from our local dealer last night and he confirmed the insurance company is working out the details. He also was very encouraging in his praise for Volvo as a company and reassured me they would take care of everything. It was great to have him thinking of us as we wait for answers. If you live in NE Pennsylvania you can't go wrong with Scott Volvo in Allentown.

Quick update. My dealer called and they are finding me a similar car from local inventory. Volvo did a great job working through this issue for me.
