Default The fuel pump AGAIN???!!!

I think that for the fourth time in a year since around the time ofpurchase of my 91 volvo 740, I need a new fuel pump. Each of the previous three times it has gone out (also was out and fixed prior to my purchase), the weather has been cold. Why does this keep happening, and, how can I check to see if it is the pump or not? Design flaw? Something bad in the tank? There is one pump in the tank.

When last replaced, the pump made a loud humming noise, but, the car started and ran. Now I don't hear the noise. Like the car, otherwise and hope to keep it, but, not if this continues.

HELP ME PLLEEEEEEASE!!! AND THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS - If it is, pretty easy job to do? Or not?

Does your car have 1 or 2 pumps?

Then maybe there is alot of dirt/junk in the tank and it keeps getting sucked up into the sock filter and burning the pump up.

Default Accessing the fuel pump

Gentlemen (and ladies?),

How do I access the in-tank regina fuel pump on my '91 740 sedan? Is it under the four-bolted plate that is under the carpet through the trunk? I have only the one-pump, in-tank system. If that is the location, do I unhook all the tubes and wiring, then, does that plastic black retaining ring twist off or get pryed off?

In advance, thanks for all your expertise and information and time!

Yes it is under the cover. Remove all the hoses. The plug goes into the trunk through a rubber gromet. Pop the gromet out and unplug the harness and feed it through the hole. The big ring unscrews then you work the assembly out of the tank.
