car won't start, again, and again...!

car won't start, again, and again...!
I've had my dead2004 S60 AWD trubotowed three times to two different mechanics in the past month. There are lights and powering up sounds, but nothing happens when I turn the key. This has happened in 25 degree weather, 50 degree weather (both dry) and rainy 45 degree weather. Twice, when the car was loaded off the truck, it started right up. I've had the battery replaced. The starter checked out fine. The last visit resulted in a thorough testing of connections, and advice to lock and unlock the car several times, or try starting it in neutral. I've tried this, as has my husband. Nothing works. When this car decides not to start, that's it. Yet the next day it could be fine. Well, it's dead again, Christmas Eve, and for Christmas all I want is someone to help identify the culprit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Crystalfleet, Welcome to the forum.
I'm not an fortune teller, It is hard to diagnose a Heckle and Jeckle problem. There have not been many problems with no starts for your car. Intermittant ones are hard to detect because they don't issue a code when they are running fine.
From personal experience and other owners of V70's, ours have had key ring problems. The anti-theft system doesn't recognize the key and it won't start. Some have had the ring replaced with success. Another problem could be the tachometer sensor (I read this in another post by Tech)
Minewould not start a few times a week. When it didn't, I found if I turned the key toassessory and back off 5 times, it would start. (Not 1,2or3)(Picky bug!!)
I solved my no starts by usingone of my otherkeys.(One of the suggestions from Tech)
Acouple times since,It acted up, I just flipped the key, and that worked.
It could be this simple or.....................................?

Agree with EricJ above. Hopefully it is still under warranty and you can take it in and have the immobilizer antenna replaced. It is a circular antenna that fits around the ignition switch. This is the only chance of fixing the problem for good that I have heard about.
